Milo’s first proper bath
Last night we got out the baby bath tub that Neal bought him as a baby shower present and gave the kid a bath using what Nanny calls the “spa bath” treatment. We filled up just enough water in the bottom of the tub so that when we laid him down on the mesh sling newborn insert, his bottom would be covered. Next, we prepared several washcloths, wetting them with warm water. We got a towel wet with very warm water and placed it in the mesh sling, then laid the kid on top of the towel and started covering him with the wet, warm washcloths so that he wasn’t exposed to any cold air.

As the piece de la resistance, we placed a warm cloth on his little head. This looked hilarious, even without the cross expression that the kid offered up. I’m still laughing at these photos this morning.

Then Matt took Milo’s special baby duck washcloth, dipped it in a warm cup of water mixed with a drop of Dr. Bronner’s lavender soap and began to clean off one bit at a time.

I’ve read in several baby books how much newborns hate water, so I was prepared for a very unhappy baby. Instead, he just kind of settled into the water and, well, I don’t know if “enjoyed” is the right word here, but let’s say he tolerated it very well. We cleaned out his crusty eye gook with a q tip and gently swabbed around his belly button area. He never made so much as a single peep the whole time. After rinsing him off, we wrapped him up in a cute hooded baby towel (also a baby shower gift, from Inbal) and got him into some pjs. He’s been growing a tiny but discernible amount this week - he now officially fits into newborn-size pjs!

Awwww. In addition to being adorable in his little jammies, he smelled delicious - baby with a hint of lavender.
