I got a Bumbo seat for free from a mom on our neighborhood’s listserv. Yes, yes, I know they’ve been recalled, but I’m not too concerned about it. For one thing, I couldn’t put my kid up on a counter anywhere in this apartment (with or without a Bumbo seat) because there is no counter space (thanks a lot, NYC). And yes, he is on the coffee table in these two pictures, but that was solely for the ease of picture taking.
The point is, the kid loves it. LOVES IT. Which means I can finally put him down for a few minutes here and there without having him scream bloody murder. Because, look, I love baby wearing and yes, I can wear him in a back carry in the mei tai around the house if I really need to get stuff done, but it is undeniably nice to be able to not have to do that all the time. I don’t like to leave him in it for more than a few minutes at a time since he can’t sit up on his own yet, and I think it’s probably physiologically not so great for babies who can’t sit up independently to be stuffed in that position (just a guess, don’t know for sure), but if it means I can load and unload the dishwasher and do laundry without having him on my back….let’s just say, my back thanks you, oh mighty Bumbo seat.
(I really love that second shot of Milo playing “this little piggy” with Zachary.)
