My two year old toddler might not know be able to consistently identify any colors beside yellow and purple, and he might not understand any kind of numerical concept (he can “count” to four, but I’m pretty sure he doesn’t understand that four means four of something), annnnnd he might not be able to identify any letters of the alphabet (he can recite the abcs, but again, doesn’t really get the concept of letters), but I’ll be damned if he doesn’t have a pretty decent-sized portion of the Sherman Brothers’ (Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Adventures of Winne the Pooh etc) songbook memorized. He can also sing you songs from the Wizard of Oz, Annie, and the Sound of Music. And if you want some variety, he can belt out a verse or two from some Loretta Lynn songs.
Basically, he’s probably not going to be competing with your kid for admission to MIT or Stanford in 16 years, but future musical theatre majors had better start prepping their game now. (Sigh.)
