An infant, according to Winnicott, doesn’t need a perfect or a selfless mother but just, in his famous phrase, a ‘good enough mother,’ which is to say, a flawed but empathetic maternal figure whose ‘ordinary devotion’ supplies the essential experience of mutual attachment.

And there you have it, my parenting philosophy in a nutshell.
