Despite the newly chilly temperature outside, the sun is shining and it’s a beautiful day. Milo and I took a stroll up to our favorite playground this morning. I was sensibly decked out in a coat, gloves, hat and scarf. My son deigned to wear his winter coat, but refused all of my attempts to get a hat or mittens on him.
Every other child there had a hat and mittens on, or at the very least, a hat. Not my kid, oh no. He wouldn’t even wear his hood. I feel like I should be wearing a sign that says, “I tried, I really did.” I felt a little better when one mom, watching me struggle to put a hat on him, told me not to stress, that her daughter went the entire winter when she was two without wearing a hat and how embarrassed she (the mom) felt every time they went outside.
It’s always nice to be reminded that all children, not just yours, are stubborn, unreasonable creatures at times.
Also, apropos of nothing, a rare picture of a grouchy-looking Milo and I together that I found on my phone:

Isla sometimes feels pants are optional so I’m *envious* that your struggles are with just a hat and gloves! ha! I need that sign too :)

I felt that same shame this morning as my daughter refused a jacket when we went on a few errands.
